Southampton are looking to offload attacking midfielder Gaston Ramirez, with the Uruguayan entering the last six months of his contract, Saints are looking to get a little bit of the £12.5m they paid for him three-and-a-half years ago.
There is a possibility that he could return to Bologna, the team Southampton signed him from, for then a club record transfer fee. Southampton are set to meet with Bologna’s representatives soon about this potential transfer, after the South American has failed to impress on the south coast.
Once he had returned from his unsuccessful loan spell with Hull City during the 2014/15 season, which resulted in the Tigers getting relegated to the Championship, he was placed immediately on the transfer list, but unfortunately the club couldn’t find a buyer during those summer months. Now that the transfer window has re-opened, it would seem like the perfect time for Ramirez to leave Saints and also the perfect fit for Bologna.
With Bologna on the look out for a new creative midfielder, there is no doubt that as a player that is clearly suited to the demands of the Italian game, Gaston could be the man to push his former club to the next level.
Gaston Ramirez was never a bad player; the Premier League just wasn’t right for him and all Saints fans will wish him well when he leaves and wherever he goes.
