Shane Long going nowhere – Koeman

Shane Long has been putting in some spectacular, hard working performances over the course of the last few games, attracting interest from two of England’s biggest clubs; Tottenham and Liverpool.

After the announcement of Charlie Austin signing for Southampton, it fueled speculation that the Republic of Ireland international could be on his way out of St Mary’s with some suggesting once Jay Rodriguez is back fit that the club will have an overload of Strikers, meaning there is not a place for one of them who is fit and firing at the moment for the Saints.

However, Koeman is suggesting that Italian striker Graziano Pelle could be the one to make way, the front-man has only 18 months remaining on his contract.

Koeman, speaking on the matter said:

“We have signed Charlie Austin now, but he is not here to replace anyone. Not Shane, not anyone.”

It is safe to say that both Shane Long and Graziano Pelle still have a vital role to play for Saints and score as many goals as they possibly can to fire saints back up to where they belong in the Premier League.

Once Jay Rodriguez and Charlie Austin are fully fit, who is Saints’ best striker?
