Ronald Koeman to save Saints once again

After an inconsistent run of results, Saints need to get back on track and fast.

When I left St Mary’s stadium on Boxing Day I thought the only way was up. Another dominant performance came in the first half against West Ham when Sadio Mane and Shane Long completely ran the West Ham defence ragged, much like they did to Arsenal’s defensive duo Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielney less than 48 hours earlier. Unfortunately that game pretty much summed up our whole season; a first half where we dominated the game but failed to kill the game off with the second goal in the game. After West Ham came Norwich where pretty much the same thing happened except we didn’t score. We were let down by Victor Wanyama and Mane for their irresponsible pre-match and during the match actions respectively. I have seen many tweets being sent out about how we should sack Koeman and how we’re going to get relegated. Yes, there is a chance of being sucked into a relegation battle, only if our current form and performances continue, but I’m confident that Ronald can turn it around.Jordan Mansfield/Getty Images Sport

The Dutch coach has worked wonders for this club. We sold five of our best and most promising players in the summer of 2014 only for Ronald to come in and sign new faces who took the Premier League by storm and looked as if they had been playing for Southampton all their lives, firing Saints to their best ever Premier League finish. Meltdown? I don’t think so. If he did it then, who says he can’t do it again?

In the transfer window we could do with signing a striker. There are few options to get good quality in the January transfer window because nobody is going to sell their best players in the mid-season. One option could be Chelsea striker Loic Remy on loan who will certainly be prolific and get you goals at the highest level. Another could be QPR striker Charlie Austin who scored 18 goals in the Premier League last season.

After all, there is only one Ronald Koeman.
