Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has told Southampton’s website that his team must be more ruthless; not just in attacking but in defending as well.
The Saints recent 2-0 home loss to London side Tottenham added to their winless streak. They now haven’t won in six and they are going to have to play out of their skins to not make it seven. They face Arsenal on Boxing day, who are now main title contenders. The Gunners will be looking to close the gap at the top of the table to Leicester.
Southampton have failed to score in their last two Premier League outings and have been missing a lot of good chances in games. Graziano Pelle has gone off the boil in recent months and Southampton are just lacking that cutting edge in front of goal in order to convert the chances in to goals as well as be more ruthless in their defending.
Speaking about his sides need to be more ruthless, Koeman said this:
The mood is again good, and it has to be good, because if we’re preparing for the next one you have to learn why we lost and take out the positive things.
I think there were of course positive things in the game, like the first 30 minutes how we played, the chances we created, but if we make those kind of mistakes, for example for the first goal, then you don’t win and we have to learn from that.
We have to be more clinical in front and we have to be more ruthless in defending.
