Saints defender Virgil Van Dijk believes his side must start to show more consistency, according to the club website.
This comes after they seemed to take their foot off the gas against Bournemouth after the interval, and Van Dijk says his team must show improvement.
We need to look at ourselves because I think we gave them the opportunity to come back and it gave them confidence I think. We need to do better and find a solution to it.
This wasn’t the first time Southampton have put in a lacklustre second 45, after they let a two goal lead slip at the hands of Leicester just last week.
“It’s happened a couple of times now and it’s something we need to work on,” the 24-year-old told reporters after the game.
The Saints however are looking to make it five games unbeaten on Saturday and the Dutchman is pleased with how he has settled into his new side.
“I think with the quality we have in the team, we need to keep going,” Van Dijk said.
I enjoy it every day – every training and every game. It’s an amazing place to be.
Southampton travel to 19th placed Sunderland on Saturday and victory there could take them as high as fifth if results go their way.
