Saints midfielder James Ward-Prowse has said that Southampton’s impressive organisation and compactness at the back is why they are unbeaten in five games on the road
Speaking to saintsfc.co.uk, the midfielder said that the point at Anfield is a ‘positive result’, as the team would have been unhappy not to take anything from the game.
He has joined Jose Fonte in pointing out how impressive Southampton’s set pieces have been, citing the fact that Saido Mane’s equaliser is the third goal in two games to come from a set-piece. He claims the effectiveness of these is down to effort put in during training.
“I think set pieces are something that we’ve been working on massively in training”
He says that the whole team contributing defensively is a boost to Southampton when defending. He has played down any notion that Saints are a defensive team, but merely that all players are ‘utilised’ when defending
“It’s not us as a team to be defensive. You obviously have to be good defensively, but we’ve got great players in attack and we need to utilise them. We certainly did that.”
