Southampton defender Jose Fonte has stated that his side should be targeting Champions League football, and it isn’t as far away as many people think.
Following the news that the Portuguese defender had signed a three-year contract extension at the Premier League side, he followed the good news up by saying that he’s now aiming for silverware and European football.
By signing that three-year extension, Jose Fonte will enter his ninth year at the Saints, following the move from Crystal Palace.
Ronald Koeman’s defender has set his sights on the grandest European stage of them all, alongside walking his team out and the infamous Wembley Stadium in a push to bring silverware to the club.

It is simple our dreams, every player wants to win something at Wembley, a cup, and play in the Champions League, obviously for the national team, be in the Euros.
The 31-year-old, who’s showing real signs of ambition, helped Southampton to get into the Europa League, and is now looking at Spanish giants Atletico Madrid as he wants his side to keep pushing and pushing.
Anything in life is achievable. Obviously we know it is extremely hard but if Atletico Madrid, against Barca and Real Madrid, managed to win the title and to be in the Champions League, with a lot less resources.
They showed anything is possible in football, if you have a great team spirit and if you do the job well.
Do you think Southampton can reach the Champions League at some point.
