Ronald Koeman has pledged his future with Southampton at a Southampton fans’ forum, claiming he could sign a new deal at the club.
The Dutchman has been linked with his national side’s top job after Danny Blind’s failure to get Holland to qualify for Euro 2016.
Koeman, however, has 18 months left on his current contract and will be happy to extend that, targeting an FA Cup Final for Southampton in the near future.
At the forum, he was asked what it would take to keep him at St. Mary’s and the former PSV Eindhoven player calmly declared: “Be happy as I am now. And that means to work with a great club, with good people to develop the team and still to have the belief between the technical staff and players, to go on.”
Following a 2-2 draw with Leicester City, Southampton find themselves in a hopeful 8th place in the Premier League table, and Koeman has urged his side to have a memorable season.
“The ambition is to continue and to improve. Make it better in how we play and get results and to achieve what we did last year and the ambition to win a title.”
Saints have only lost two of the first nine games this season, and the man who replaced Maurico Pochettino in 2014 hopes his side can take motivation from last season’s losing FA Cup finalists.
“It is very difficult, we know, but if Aston Villa can play in the FA Cup final, why not Southampton? That would be great and we will fight for that.”
Southampton face Liverpool on Sunday with Koeman hoping to spoil Jurgen Klopp’s Anfield debut.
