Former Southampton manager Maurico Pochettino has said that Saints adapted to his pressing style of play faster than his current club, Tottenham, as his players at Southampton were, as he put it, ‘quicker learners’. He had the likes of Lallana, Lambert, Lovren and Schneirderlin when he was at the Saints, something Koeman now does not have after they all moved on.
When speaking to Neil Jones of the Liverpool Echo, he said that at Southampton, getting the players used to his pressing game style was much quicker than at Tottenham, where he says that it was ‘different’.
Pochettino managed Saints for just less than a year and a half, taking the helm for 60 games. He won 23 of those games, giving him a win percentage of 38.33%. At Tottenham he has managed 69 matches, winning 33.
Pochettino’s job before his spell at Southampton was with Espanyol, the club at which he finished his playing career.
His career as a player was a rich one, making over 500 appearances for four clubs. He spent three separate spells at Espanyol, making a total of 275 appearances for them, scoring 13 times for them.
