In the wake of Saturday’s Premier League encounter with the Foxes, Leicester boss Claudio Ranieri has said he held talks with Saints before they appointed Ronald Koeman 2014.
Leicester visit St. Marys on the back of 4 wins in 8 games since Ranieri took over from Nigel Pearson in the summer.
And Ranieri has revealed he had he made a ‘mistake’ in opting to take the Greece job after he had spoken to both the Greek national side and Southampton.
“I was interested, but after that there was also the Greece job – and I made a mistake,” Claudio said.
The Italian only mustered 4 months in charge after three defeats and a draw in a poor Euro 2016 qualifying campaign saw him quickly replaced.
But the 63 year-old has seen a dramatic change in fortunes with his Leicester side only three points off table toppers Manchester City going into week nine against the club that he could possibly have been in charge of, Southampton.
Southampton ended up appointing Ronald Koeman and it is safe to say they made the correct call, with Koeman having done a fantastic job at Southampton so far in his spell of just over a year at the club.
