Reports are suggesting that Newcastle United are set to make a shock bid for out-of-favour Southampton midfielder Gaston Ramirez.
According to The Express, Steve McClaren is looking closely at the Uruguayan in an attempt to salvage The Magpies poor start to the season.
The 24 year-old, after putting pen to paper on a what was then a record twelve million transfer fee from Bologna back in 2012, has really failed to make any sort of impact on the south coast.
Ramirez, after spending last season on loan at Championship side Hull City, has struggled to force his way into Ronald Koeman’s plans with only 2 appearances

Despite splashing out on the best part of £50 million in this summer, Newcastle are already in trouble eight games in and almost certain to be facing a relegation battle again.
The Magpies will be keen to bolster their attacking options come January but will be Gaston be the right man should a deal be done?
