Southampton and Liverpool target Jorginho was very close to leaving Napoli, his agent has revealed.
His agent, Joao Santos said that a number of clubs were interested in the midfielder including Southampton and a transfer was on the cards. However, the 23-year-old is now happy at the Italian outfit and a move away will be unlikely.
Everything has changed since the summer. After the arrival of new players, we thought the moment had come to leave. A quality player like Jorginho cannot sit on the bench.
A talk with the club’s director of sport Cristiano Giuntoli was also a factor in the player’s decision to stay as he was told the club hold him in very high regard:
He told us that the club really believed in him and considered him untouchable. Therefore we decided to postpone any discussions until January.
Jorginho only made 13 appearances last season for the Serie A side and will be hoping that he will play a lot more often, otherwise a move to the Premier League could happen.
