On the back of a first win at Stamford bridge since 2002, Victor Wanyama has spoken about the importance of the victory.
Speaking to Southampton’s official club website the defensive midfielder was full of praise for his teammates after they engineered a historic 3-1 win on Saturday:
Sadio is a good player. He’s done well for us and he is learning every day. He was fantastic, but a lot of players did well. Sadio, Graziano Pellè, Davo (Steven Davis). Everybody was fantastic.
Despite falling behind to an excellent Willian free-kick, The Saints fought back and came away with all three points thanks to goals from Davis, Mane and Pelle to add more pressure to the defending champions.
Despite victories on the road at Manchester United and Arsenal last season, Wanyama believes that it is one of the best away victories since he arrived at St Mary’s in 2013.
I think this is one of the best away wins. They are a really difficult team to beat, especially at Stamford Bridge, so we’re very glad to have the maximum points.
