Saints Terminate Osvaldo Contract

Southampton’s troublesome striker, Dani Osvaldo has today had his contract terminated after his loan spell at Boca Juniors ended.

Osvaldo joined the club in 2013 for a record fee of around £15 million but managed less than a season on the South Coast as, less than six months into his contract at Saints, he got into a training ground bust-up with now-club Captain Jose Fonte, which resulted in Osvaldo head-butting the Portuguese.

Since then, the Italian forward has had unsuccessful loan spells at Juventus, Inter Milan and Boca Juniors with both clubs unwilling to take the risk and sign the 29 year-old on a permanent deal.

Osvaldo made 11 appearances for Boca Juniors, scoring three goals – similar to his strike rate at Southampton; 13 appearances and three goals. His three goals included one sumptuous effort against Manchester City in December 2013 – beating Kompany twice and curling past Joe Hart.
