Morgan Schneiderlin says his future, whether at St. Mary’s or not, is set to be resolved within 48 hours.
The French international has previously said that he would not leave the Saints for anything other than Champions League football with Arsenal and Manchester United both reportedly interested.
The midfielder told French radio station France Bleu Alsace: “The negotiations are ongoing and should be completed in the coming days, hopefully before the resumption of training next week.”
After a torrid summer preceding last season in which the 24 year-old announced to the Twittersphere that he wanted to leave the South Coast club and follow in the footsteps of many of his former team-mates.
He was forced to stay by Saints boss Ronald Koeman and the club’s hierarchy and was key in Southampton’s push for Europa League football this season.
If odds are anything to go by then it looks like Schneiderlin could finally be leaving after years of speculation, with Arsenal (still) the favourites to land the Frenchman.
An influx of bets on Schneiderlin making the move to the Emirates has led to one bookmaker slashing their odds from 5/1 to 1/2. Manchester United have been interested according to various reports.
Michael Bowers, a Football Trader for Betfair said: “Arsenal are now odds-on favourite to sign the in-demand Frenchman before September 2nd 2015.
“Schneiderlin has been a wanted man for several transfer windows now and it seems as though Wenger is trying to force a deal through early to fend off other suitors. After a huge rush of bets today, Arsenal have been cut from 5/1 to 1/2, the shortest odds any other club has been backed in to by far.”
Schneiderlin joined Southampton in 2009 from Strasbourg in £1 million and has featured for the club through three divisions and his domestic form saw him called up to the French national team for the first time in 2014 before being included in the squad for the World Cup in Brazil last year.
