Southampton transfer target, Toby Alderweireld, is now central to Chelsea and Spurs’ wanted posters after a successful loan spell at St Mary’s during the 2014/15 campaign that saw the South Coast outfit qualify for the Europa League.
However, Ronald Koeman is willing to compete with his top flight rivals on a financial scale as he looks to keep the Belgian in his back four. The fee previously paid for Dani Osvaldo was around the £15million mark but at least the Premier League outfit will know what they’re getting this time with the Atletico midfield man having been a pivotal performer last season.
The man-in-question’s parent club are willing to part company with their number 12 – just as Saints are willing to part company with £18million to see him don the stripes once more – having already offered him to Jose Mourinho.
This suggests the Madrid-based side will be activating the buy-out clause of £1.5million in order to prevent Southampton from getting themselves a Belgian bargain as the 26-year-old could make his loan signing permanent with a £5.7million option to do so in the contract.
Although Saints could be forced to get the wallet out, Alderweireld could well be worth every penny and it would be a shame to see him in a blue or white jersey as opposed to a red one next term!
