Southampton are reportedly on the cusp of signing Sporting Lisbon right-back Cedric Soares in a move that suggests that Nathaniel Clyne’s future looks likely to be away from St. Mary’s.
According to Portuguese newspaper A Jogo, the Saints are close to sealing a £3.6million deal for the youngster but this could spell the end for Nathaniel Clyne on the South Coast.
Clyne’s future has been thrust into the spotlight in recent times as the England international has refused to sign a contract extension as Manchester United and Liverpool circle.
The latter of the two clubs saw a £10million bid rejected for Clyne earlier this month.
Potential replacement, Soares is said to have been the subject of interest from several Premier League clubs with Stoke rivalling Southampton to land the player.
The 23 year-old also caught the eye of Champions League winners Barcelona who were reportedly ready to table a €7million bid but the Catalonia club brought in Alexi Vidal from Sevilla instead – as well as Dani Alves signing a new two-year deal.
