Morgan Schneiderlin has announced that if he leaves Southampton it will be to play Champions League football.
Since Southampton’s arrrival in the Premier League, and to an extent before that, the Frenchman has attracted attention from most of the Premier League’s top six, especially in North London.
But Schneiderlin will not move to any club that is not playing Champions League football next season, so linking up with former boss Mauricio Pocchetino at Tottenham has been ruled out but a move to any of England’s top four is very much on the cards.
Speaking to French news channel RMC, Schneiderlin said “Yes, I think my decision is made. I learned a lot last season. The goal is to stay in England, it is a championship that I like and where I have a lot of fun.
“If I leave Southampton it is for a club that plays better than the Europa League. There are ongoing discussions, but nothing is done. But of course the Champions League is my goal. If I leave Southampton it will be for a club in the Champions League.”
Schneiderlin has made over 260 appearances for the South Coast side through three divisions and despite saying last year that his six years at the club had been ‘ruined’ last summer when he was forced to stay by Ronald Koeman and Head of Football Development Les Reed has had an excellent season in the Saints’ midfield.
