Southampton’s Director of Football Les Reed has revealed he feels confident in securing a fresh contact for in-demand Nathaniel Clyne.
Clyne, who has been a major part of Southampton since he joined from Crystal Palace in 2012, has been one of the best right backs in the Premier League and has sparked interest from many of the topsides.
However, with Jay Rodriguez putting pen to paper on a four-year contract extension, Reed told saintsfc.co.uk Clyne will follow in the forward’s footsteps.
“With Clyne it’s very much been the same as with Jay in that we’ve been talking for quite a while, it gets fed by speculation which doesn’t help.
“Ronald Koeman made a comment that there was a deadline but that deadline was more about getting a response, and that issue has been resolved.
“I’m in discussions with his agent and that has been very positive. Nathaniel has made statements that he’s happy here,” Reed continued.
“There’s bound to be speculation because he’s such a good player and has had such a good season. We have to balance that against what he can do for us in the future and what we can do for him.
“We’re at a very good place at the moment in terms of the discussions going on and I’m confident that we will have a resolution to that sooner rather than later.”
The 24-year-old has been surrounded by specualation of a move away from the south coast all season with the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool rumoured to be interested in the England international.
The question on the tip of all Southampton’s fans tongues will be, will he stay or will he go?
