Southampton left-back Ryan Bertrand has revealed he is ready for more caps, and in his eyes deserves to be a regular in Roy Hodgson’s squad.
The 25-year-old recently made his loan move from Chelsea a permanent deal and has since earned himself a call up to the England squad.
However, it wasn’t that straight forward for Bertrand as he wasn’t included in the initial squad. Although, due to sustaining an injury during the first half of the international break, Everton full-back Leighton Baines had to depart from the squad and return home – which prompted the England boss to call the Southampton defender.
The 25-year-old spoke to the Daily Echo.
“It’s down to him, whoever he wants to pick is his decision
“I’ll just concentrate on my game. I’m confident enough to know that I should be in there but I don’t pick the team so I’ll just keep going.”
Despite the manner of his call-up he admitted its always special to play for your country. But he admits coming for England there was special. “All those years I spent watching games as a kid, the England games were always the biggest games.
“So to be part of it, to wear the actual kit and know the whole country is cheering you on was fantastic.”
Bertrand will be hoping his brief contribution and performances for Southampton will prompt Roy Hodgson to reconsider his left-back options.
