According to sources on Twitter, Southampton manager Ronald Koeman is being lined as a potential successor to current AC Milan manager Filippo Inzaghi.
Koeman had been linked to the managerial position at his former club Barcelona, prior to Luis Enrique’s turnaround at the Catalan club.
The Dutchman has enjoyed a brilliant start to life with the south coast outfit, enjoying a win/loss ratio just shy of 55% so far in all competitions. The former Barcelona legend spent big money last summer to replace the many departures, but this move has paid off, with the Saints fighting for Champions League qualification with the league’s top dogs.
In addition, The Saints are pushing for their highest ever finish in the Premier League, and are slowly tying top players down on long term contracts.
Koeman’s own brand of Southampton style has seen foreign imports matched with raw talent from the side’s academy, with many graduates making their debut’s under the Dutchman.
The Southampton boss has pulled off wonders in the transfer market, signing La Liga winner Toby Alderweireld from Athletico Madrid on loan and picking up Dusan Tadic for just under 11 million.
On the other hand, Filippo Inzaghi has come under increasing pressure at AC Milan. The former Italian striker is the second Milan legend in consecutive seasons to manage the club, with Clarence Seedorf retiring to take over the side last season before being sacked.
However Inzaghi has not done much better, achieving a 33% win ratio so far this season, which sees Milan sit tenth in the table. The once Talismanic Stephan El Sharaawy has scored 1 league goal all season, and the current calibre of players at the club is merely a shadow of what was there a decade ago.
So is Koeman the man to bring glory back to the club? When questioned about managing Barcelona in the past Koeman has remained adamant that he wants to stay with Southampton. And with Milan now a stuttering mid table side, it would be incredibly surprisingly if the Dutchman did leave, if an offer arises. Therefore I think Southampton fans shouldn’t have too much to worry about with this rumour.
