A number of Southampton fans have hailed the impact that Kyle Walker-Peters has had at St Mary’s since he arrived from Tottenham Hotspur after their 3-0 win against Sheffield United.
Walker-Peters has been enjoying an excellent start to the campaign for the Saints on the right-hand side of their defence. He has been a crucial part of Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side since he made a permanent £12m move from Tottenham in the summer, and the 23-year-old is starting to show that he was well worth that price tag.
The defender had spoken to The Guardian about his desire to potentially try and challenge the host of talented English right-backs for a place in the national team squad. Walker-Peters’ performance against Sheffield United was certainly one which showed he has the potential to at least place himself in the conversation for Gareth Southgate.
Against Sheffield United, he won two tackles and one interception, as well as winning six of his eight ground duels. He also showed his attacking potential managing to average an 87% passing accuracy rate and also complete two successful dribbles, making an impact both defensively and offensively (Sofascore).
Southampton fans react to Kyle Walker-Peters’ performance
Many Southampton fans were quick to suggest that Walker-Peters is proving to be a bargain addition and one of the best signings they have made in the last few years. One supporter even suggested the Saints had got the better player from Tottenham after Spurs took Pierre-Emile Højbjerg from them in the summer.
Absolute bargain. The difference/balance he has given this team. And so many attacks start from him.

Kyle Walker Peters is such a player man. Honestly one of our best bits of business we’ve done in ages. So so good. #SaintsFC

3 goals. 3 points. Clean sheet. Up to 3rd. Whole team is pulling in the same direction. Che, Jannik and KWP class today, JWP just everywhere! #saintsfc

KWP has been absolutely outstanding today, I’m sure Spurs will disagree but I think we got the best of the swap #Saintsfc

KWP is arguably the second best signing we have done in the post Koeman era.
What a player! #saintsfc
