Southampton are said to be one of the clubs discussing a move for the defender, who has been linked with a move to St Mary’s for some time now.

The Premier League side’s interest in the defender dates back to the beginning of the summer transfer window, with claims that Newcastle would rival them in the race to sign the French star.

The 25-year-old impressed at Toulouse last summer and his performances in France have not gone unnoticed.

Mark Hughes has already strengthened defensively this summer with Jannik Vestergaard arriving from Bundesliga outfit Borussia Monchengladbach on a permanent deal.
