Despite several reports linking him with a move to Southampton this summer, Andrea Petagna has joined SPAL on a season-long loan.
The promising Italian forward had been heavily linked with a transfer away from Atalanta ahead of next season, with St Mary’s emerging as a potential destination for the player.
However, it has today been confirmed that Petagna has joined SPAL for the upcoming season as he looks to lead the line for the Serie A outfit.

Southampton are understood to be monitoring attacking targets this summer as they build ahead of next season, but their pursuit of a new striker could depend on whether or not Sam Gallagher leaves the club on loan.
Sheffield United are chasing a temporary deal for the 22-year-old forward and Mark Hughes may be willing to let the forward depart for the season.
However, after weeks of speculation, it’s been confirmed that Petagna will not be arriving in the Premier League any time soon, with the Italian attacker set to line up for SPAL next term.
