Southampton set to make Petagna offer

Southampton are set to make an offer for Atalanta forward Andrea Petagna in the coming days.

According to Football Italia, Southampton are ready to follow up their interest in Petagna with a firm bid for the striker.

The Saints are the market for a new centre-forward ahead of next season, to replace club-record flop Guido Carrillo.

Southampton signed Carrillo from Ligue 1 side AS Monaco for £19m, with the forward failing to net a single goal for the club.

Saints manager Mark Hughes left him out of his squads towards the end of the season and has opted not to take him on the club’s tour of China.

Petagna, meanwhile, is thought to be valued at €10m, which would make him less of a risk for Southampton.

The 23-year-old scored six and assisted nine for Atalanta in all competitions last season.

Lazio and Wolves are also said to be interested in the Italian forward.
