Southampton ended the season with defeat as they narrowly lost 1-0 to Stoke City.
Southampton started well, as Charlie Austin went close on a few occasions, but Stoke ended the half with the best chance of the game, as a dodgy back pass from Cedric fell perfectly to the feet of Peter Crouch, who could’ve put his team ahead if it wasn’t for an outstanding tackle by Maya Yoshida.
Saints had the majority of possession, but couldn’t quite turn it into a goal scoring chance, and that came back to haunt them as Peter Crouch scored a header against his former club.
Southampton had a few good chances to get back into the game, but a terrific triple save from Stoke keeper Jack Butland made sure that his side would finish the season with the three points, and Saints would leave with heavy hearts on the final day of the 16/17 season.
