Southampton’s under-23’s gave up a lead to lose in London today as they lost 3-2 to Chelsea.

Chelsea lined up with Eduardo, John Terry, Cesc Fabregas, Michy Batshuayi and Marco Van Ginkel, with their starting line-up costing more than most Premier League teams.

However, that did not stop Southampton’s youthful side from procuring the lead. Olufela Olomola fired the ball into the bottom corner from the edge of the box after just five minutes.

Chelsea responded instantly, though. Batshuayi scored within a minute after Olomola’s goal as, he too, scored from outside the box.

Josh Sims handed Southampton the lead again as his shot from outside the box deflected in off Zouma to make it 2-1 in the 15th minute.

Chelsea, however, won the game with goals from Batshuayi and Van Ginkel in the 86th and 90th minutes.

Southampton fought valiantly against the very (far too) strong Chelsea side but were ultimately beaten.

Here is how we rated the Saints…
