# Saints fans divided over future of Alexandre Jankewitz

Some [Southampton](https://readsouthampton.com/2020/10/29/saints-should-place-trust-in-jankewitz-instead-of-pursuing-kamara/) fans were divided over whether [Alexandre Jankewitz](https://readsouthampton.com/2021/01/28/alexandre-jankewitz-hands-in-transfer-request-at-southampton/) has a future at St Mary’s or whether the club should let the youngster go.

According to [The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/news/southampton-transfer-alexandre-jankewitz/YhsB5nwmgMYp), the [Swiss youth international](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alexandre-jankewitz/nationalmannschaft/spieler/507472/verein_id/9534) is pushing for a move elsewhere amid frustrations over a perceived lack of opportunities under Ralph Hasenhuttl.

The disillusioned 19-year-old has made waves at youth level in the Saints’ academy, winning the coveted [Scholar of the Year award in 2020.](https://twitter.com/southamptonfc/status/1297096171245260800?lang=en)

His agent has linked his client with a move to Eredivisie side FC Groningen, and the youngster was [also a target](https://www.tuttomercatoweb.com/serie-a/tmw-parma-occhi-su-jankewitz-del-southampton-c-e-anche-il-barcellona-1441634) for Serie A side Parma and La Liga giants Barcelona in recent months.

Attracting the possibility of joining Barcelona’s La Masia academy is a feat in its own right and is testament to the potential ability of Jankewitz.

The youngster is fired up about wanting to prove himself at a senior level, and he may well get his wish – Groningen [are understood](https://theathletic.com/news/southampton-transfer-alexandre-jankewitz/YhsB5nwmgMYp) to have expressed their ‘admiration of the player’ but are yet to come up with a formal offer.

Jankewitz has 18 months remaining on his current deal and the Saints have no immediate pressure to sell ([The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/news/southampton-transfer-alexandre-jankewitz/YhsB5nwmgMYp)).
