Saints fans divided over future of Alexandre Jankewitz

Some Southampton fans were divided over whether Alexandre Jankewitz has a future at St Mary’s or whether the club should let the youngster go.

According to The Athletic, the Swiss youth international is pushing for a move elsewhere amid frustrations over a perceived lack of opportunities under Ralph Hasenhuttl.

The disillusioned 19-year-old has made waves at youth level in the Saints’ academy, winning the coveted Scholar of the Year award in 2020.

His agent has linked his client with a move to Eredivisie side FC Groningen, and the youngster was also a target for Serie A side Parma and La Liga giants Barcelona in recent months.

Attracting the possibility of joining Barcelona’s La Masia academy is a feat in its own right and is testament to the potential ability of Jankewitz.

The youngster is fired up about wanting to prove himself at a senior level, and he may well get his wish – Groningen are understood to have expressed their ‘admiration of the player’ but are yet to come up with a formal offer.

Jankewitz has 18 months remaining on his current deal and the Saints have no immediate pressure to sell (The Athletic).

These Saints fans were locked in debate on Twitter as to where the future of the youngster is best placed…
