A number of Southampton supporters have been reacting to reports suggesting that Michael Obafemi is close to securing a loan move to Championship high-fliers Swansea City.
Obafemi has found himself on the fringes of the first team at St Mary’s this season and he has only made one Premier League appearance for the Saints so far in 2020/21. That came way back in September during the win at Burnley and it has been reported by Hampshire Live that the 20-year-old could be made available for a loan move this month.
The young striker showed glimpses of his potential last season for the Saints with three goals and two assists as he made eight starts in the Premier League (Sofascore). However, he has found himself firmly behind Che Adams, Danny Ings and Shane Long in the pecking order in recent months, while fellow youngsters Nathan Tella and Dan N’Lundulu have been selected ahead of him at times.
It has now emerged that Swansea City are hoping to complete a deal for Obafemi and they are reportedly in advanced talks over securing a loan move for the 20-year-old, per Football Insider. It has also been reported that fellow Championship outfit Stoke City are interested in making a potential move for the young Irishman.
Saints fans welcome Swansea loan links with Obafemi
Many Southampton fans welcomed the reports and suggested that Swansea is an ideal destination for the striker given their style of play under Steve Cooper and the success they had with Rhian Brewster on loan this time last year.
I like this move. He’ll develop quite well there.

That’s a good move, the former Under 20’s England Manager, who won the WC will be a good place for Obafemi to develop.
