# Southampton fans urge Saints to make move for Demarai Gray

A number of Southampton fans have been urging the Saints to make a move for Leicester City winger [Demarai Gray](https://readsouthampton.com/2020/12/21/southampton-could-reignite-interest-in-demarai-gray/) after they were [linked](https://www.90min.com/posts/leicester-transfer-ryan-christie-michael-olise-demarai-gray-spurs-everton) with a potential January move for the 24-year-old.

Gray has been frozen out of the first team picture at Leicester so far this season, with Brendan Rodgers having handed him just [one appearance in the Carabao Cup](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/demarai-gray/leistungsdaten/spieler/292417). That comes after he managed to make just 21 Premier League appearances last term in which he scored two goals and provided three assists for the Foxes ([Sofascore](https://www.sofascore.com/player/demarai-gray/355152)).

The 24-year-old arrived at Leicester with a [burgeoning reputation](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/35216362) when he made the move from Birmingham City. Gray has shown flashes of his potential during his time with the club and [had been a key player for the Foxes](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/demarai-gray/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/292417) until Rodgers arrived as manager.

The winger’s current[£55,000-a-week deal](https://www.spotrac.com/epl/leicester-city/demarai-gray-22809/#:~:text=Demarai%20Gray%20signed%20a%204,cap%20hit%20of%20%C2%A32%2C860%2C000.)runs out at the end of the season and [it has been reported](https://www.90min.com/posts/leicester-transfer-ryan-christie-michael-olise-demarai-gray-spurs-everton) that he could be sold in January.

Southampton had been [interested](https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/revealed-leicester-city-boss-puel-906134) in the winger during Claude Puel’s time in charge of the club, and it was reported by [90min.com](https://www.90min.com/posts/leicester-transfer-ryan-christie-michael-olise-demarai-gray-spurs-everton) that they are set to rival Everton and Tottenham in the race to sign him in the January transfer window.

### **Southampton fans want Demarai Gray**

Many Southampton fans feel that this could be a “great” move for the Saints to make in January. Some believe it could prove to be something of a bargain were they able to secure the 24-year-old for a cheap transfer fee.

One even suggested involving Nathan Redmond in a swap deal, with the 26-year-old [scoring just once in 10 games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nathan-redmond/leistungsdaten/spieler/129078) so far in a subdued season for him personally.
