# Southampton fans react to Brandon Williams transfer update

A number of Southampton fans have been reacting to a report from [The Telegraph](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2020/12/14/southampton-keen-sign-manchester-united-youngster-brandon-williams/) over the potential loan addition of Manchester United defender [Brandon Williams](https://readsouthampton.com/?p=60294), with the Red Devils now open to allowing him to leave.

Williams has found game-time hard to come by at Old Trafford so far this season, with just [one appearance](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/brandon-williams/leistungsdaten/spieler/507700) in the Premier League (which came against the Saints). He also [featured twice](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/brandon-williams/leistungsdaten/spieler/507700) in their unsuccessful Champions League group campaign.

Southampton are enjoying an excellent start to the season and Ralph Hasenhuttl has [already stated](https://www.hampshirelive.news/sport/football/transfer-news/southampton-transfer-january-new-signings-4793747) that he believes he has good squad depth in most positions. However, the manager added that he [would be open to signing](https://www.hampshirelive.news/sport/football/transfer-news/southampton-transfer-january-new-signings-4793747)a young, up-and-coming player in the winter window in a similar fashion to Kyle Walker-Peters [on an initial loan](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/51302547) last January.

The Saints had been [linked](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/12691/12090279/brandon-williams-southampton-make-manchester-united-enquiry-over-defender) with a move for Williams in the summer, but ultimately that did not materialise. However, Southampton remain keen on adding the versatile full-back, who can [play on either side of the defence](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/brandon-williams/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/507700), to their squad.

Ole Gunnar Solskjær is now reportedly willing to allow him to spend time out on loan in the second half of the season, per [The Telegraph](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2020/12/14/southampton-keen-sign-manchester-united-youngster-brandon-williams/).

### **Southampton fans react to Brandon Williams update**

Many Southampton fans suggested that Williams would be a very good addition for them as cover for Walker-Peters and Ryan Bertrand, while there was one fan who was a little sceptical over the prospect of bringing in and developing a player for another team in January.

> Really liked his energy and willingness to get forward in the second half of that Leipzig game the other day, seems like it would be a smart move that could maybe become permanent if he impresses. Feels a bit like KWP last January. [#SaintsFC](https://twitter.com/hashtag/SaintsFC?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) [https://t.co/W6UpAxQu3w](https://t.co/W6UpAxQu3w)

> Hopefully do a Walker-peters. A young fullback with promise from a big club on loan for half a season, and then starts playing the football of his life. If so good cover for Bertrand who’s getting old.

> Would be a good loan signing to cover Bertie and KWP. From what I have seen of him, he has a lot of energy bombs forward, gets back, can pick a pass and I think would fit well into our system.
