Southampton fans hail Oriol Romeu’s performance against Brighton

A number of Southampton supporters have heaped praise on Oriol Romeu after his instrumental performance during their 2-1 win at Brighton on Monday.

The Saints were aiming to climb back into the top five of the Premier League and to continue their impressive away form this calendar year. However, Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side had to come from behind before showing their fighting spirit to take all three points back toHampshire.

Romeu played a key part for Southampton with a battling performance in midfield to allow them have control of the game at crucial periods. The Spaniard was crucial in terms of helping to win the ball back for Hasenhuttl’s side and he managed to win four tackles and 11 duels as well as recording an 80% passing accuracy rate (Sofascore).

The 29-year-old has had some critics at times during his spell at St Mary’s but he is starting to show a consistent run of form and become an integral part of Hasenhuttl’s well-drilled side. Romeu will hope to continue this form over the festive period and help maintain Southampton’s excellent start to the campaign.

An unbelievably important win to put us 5th in the table. Romeu with a monstrous performance in the middle. With Sheffield United up next, we could be in the top 4 by Christmas, it’s surreal. Our King is back too. This season can be something special with Ralph #SaintsFC

What a transformation from Romeu btw this season on the ball…

Both his short and long range passing has been brilliant and showing a lot of composure…

I used to criticise him a lot.. and rightly so I think, but is one of my favourite players right now. 👊#saintsfc 🔴⚪🔴⚪
