# Southampton keeping tabs on Austrian winger Husein Balic

Southampton have reportedly joined Scottish giants Celtic in the race to sign Austrian speedster [Husein Balic](https://readceltic.com/2020/11/09/report-reveals-celtic-are-continuing-to-show-an-interest-in-husein-balic/).

That’s according to the [Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8925507/Southampton-Brentford-chasing-Husein-Balic-one-worlds-fastest-players.html), who claimed that the 24-year-old is of interest to the Saints, the Hoops and Championship side Brentford.

Balic currently plies his trade for LASK Linz and is under contract until [2024](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/husein-balic/profil/spieler/241803) but could be available for as little as [£2.8m](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8925507/Southampton-Brentford-chasing-Husein-Balic-one-worlds-fastest-players.html) in the January window.

The wide man, who has been timed to [run 20 metres in just 2.75 seconds](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8925507/Southampton-Brentford-chasing-Husein-Balic-one-worlds-fastest-players.html), has been involved in seven goals in his 14 appearances this season ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/husein-balic/leistungsdaten/spieler/241803)).

[Nathan Redmond](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nathan-redmond/leistungsdaten/spieler/129078), [Stuart Armstrong](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/stuart-armstrong/leistungsdaten/spieler/130765)and [Moussa Djenepo](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/moussa-djenepo/leistungsdaten/spieler/485424) have made a total of 18 appearances combined this season. The trio have just two goals and two assists collectively, whereas [Balic](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/husein-balic/leistungsdaten/spieler/241803) has five goals and two assists in 14 appearances by himself.

At just £2.8m, a deal for Balic could be a shrewd one to seal in the New Year. He would add plenty of pace at St Mary’s, a killer pass and an eye for goal to Ralph Hasenhuttl’s wide ranks.

Also, a just 24 years of age, Hasenhuttl could help to develop his fellow countryman’s game even further.
