### READ SOUTHAMPTON VERDICT

It is good to see that Southampton are looking at potential additions to their academy set-up in the summer, with Mutch being just[21](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/robbie-mutch/profil/spieler/333497).

He is already a [regular](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/robbie-mutch/profil/spieler/333497)in the second division in Scotland, which suggests that he could have plenty of potential as a goalkeeper going forward.

If Southampton can secure a deal for him, he could come in and be the club’s Under-23 goalkeeper or possibly even go back out on loan.

Southampton could be investing in the future, with Mutch potentially being a first-team player later down the line.

Failing that, they could develop him to a point where they are able to sell him on for a profit. This means that it could be a shrewd bit of business for the club, on and off the pitch.

For the immediate future, though, the goalkeeping situation in the first-team is of no pressing concern.

Angus Gunn and Alex McCarthy are [competing](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/18/Show/England-Southampton) for the number one shirt and the latter has [kept](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/18/Show/England-Southampton) four clean sheets in his last 10 matches – showing that he is performing well between the sticks.
