# Southampton keeping tabs on Rangers defender Tavernier

Southampton have reportedly joined Brighton & Hove Albion and Burnley in considering bids for Rangers right-back James Tavernier this summer.

The former Newcastle United man has been gathering interest from Premier League clubs and now the Saints seem to be entering the race for his signature as transfer season edges around the corner.

According to the [Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-6992263/Brighton-Southampton-weighing-Rangers-defender-James-Tavernier.html), Tavernier is on the radar of the top-flight trio and Rangers will be forced to listen to offers in excess of £8million.

The 27-year-old has been one of the most impressive full-backs in the Scottish Premiership this season under Steven Gerrard, scoring 13 goals and providing 14 assists.

Southampton are searching for an experienced right-back to share responsibilities with promising youth talent Yan Valery next season and Tavernier would likely be tempted by a return to the English top-flight.

Whether Gerrard would sanction the sale of such an important player remains to be seen, but it’d be a fantastic acquisition with Cedric Soares set to leave permanently.
