# Hasenhuttl heaps praise on Valery

Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has praised Yan Valery for his performance in the team’s 3-2 defeat at Manchester United.

Speaking to the [club’s official website](https://southamptonfc.com/news/2019-03-03/ralph-hasenhuttl-on-valery-and-ward-prowse-post-manchester-united-southampton-premier-league-1819) after the match, the Austrian was quick to lavish praise on the young defender following his first ever goal in senior football.

Valery opened the scoring with a thunderous effort from outside the box on the right-hand side.

However, his goal would eventually count for little as Manchester United were able to secure a late victory in front of their home fans.

Romelu Lukaku’s brace after Andreas Pereira’s curling effort meant that Valery’s wonder-goal and James Ward-Prowse’s free-kick were rendered insufficient as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men took all three points.

Nevertheless, Hasenhuttl took the positives from the defeat and highlighted the Frenchman as a standout performer in the match on Saturday afternoon. He said:

> That’s something you demand from a young player. He gets the trust from us and then I want to see a brave player who is believing in himself and Yan made a fantastic development until now.

> Defensively he is better now and also offensively that’s exactly the way we want to go. I’m very happy for him that he scored for the first time, it was a fantastic goal and to shoot like this at Old Trafford shows how confident he is.

Valery will be keen to continue his impressive run of form against Tottenham Hotspur next weekend.
