# Southampton in talks over deal for Maehle

Southampton are in talks over a deal to sign right-back Joakim Maehle from Gent this month.

[According to The Daily Mail,](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-6605089/Southampton-open-talks-Genk-deal-right-Joakim-Maehle.html) Southampton are currently in talks with Gent as they look to secure a deal in the next two weeks.

Maehle joined Gent from Aalborg in 2017 for £1.3m and has mainly been utilised as a right-back during his time in Belgium, although he is also able to operate in midfield.

The report claims that Cedric Soares is likely to leave Southampton this month, although it does not state any interested clubs or a likely destination for the Portuguese defender.

Cedric has been played as a right-back and left-back in recent weeks under Ralph Hasenhuttl, but could now leave the club before the end of the transfer window.

The Daily Mail claim that Hasenhuttl wants to bring in a new defender to St. Mary’s to boost their chances of survival in the Premier League this season.
