Speculation had quietened down regarding Southampton’s apparent move for Barcelona defender Marlon Santos, but claims from Diario Sport today indicate that the transfer will indeed go through.
It was, in fact, Sport who originally claimed that Southampton were one step away from completing the signing of Marlon two weeks ago, but no further details were then disclosed.
Southampton are set to sign Jannik Vestergaard from Borussia Monchengladbach in a deal worth £18m this week and, according to new reports from Spain, Marlon will soon arrive at St Mary’s in a deal worth just above £10 million, along with additional bonuses.
The Brazilian centre-back spent the duration of last season on loan at OGC Nice but a summer of upheaval at the Ligue 1 club has seen Marlon released from his original deal with them.
This has led Barcelona to the decision to offload the 22-year-old, and it seems Southampton will be Marlon’s next destination after months of speculation surrounding his future.
Sport claim that Marlon has opted to accept the proposal over Southampton and will be unveiled by the Premier League club when they see fit.
