# Carrillo: Pellegrino is a master

Southampton striker Guido Carrillo has labelled under-fire boss Mauricio Pellegrino as a ‘master’ as his side prepare for a crucial clash in the Premier League against Newcastle United, as reported by the [Telegraph](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2018/03/08/guido-carrillo-juan-sebastian-veron-told-premier-leagues-intensity/).

The former Monaco striker has struggled to make a positive impact at the club, failing to net a single goal. However, he has managed to claim two assists in all competitions since moving to the club.

He will play a vital role in helping keep his side in the Premier League this season with Saints really finding it difficult to find form in front of goal.

The Argentine is known for his presence in the air and this will be a key feature, as full-backs Cedric Soares and Ryan Bertrand are both renowned for getting crosses in throughout matches.

His goal record at Monaco wasn’t the greatest but Pellegrino was prepared to take a chance on him, with Saints splashing a club-record sum of £19m on the forward.

Carrillo spoke admiringly about his manager, who he worked with at Estudiantes near the start of his career.

> He is what we call a master. He is a person who teaches the players how to be better. And also as people. It is very important to have a coach like him.
