# Pellegrino’s position at Saints under ‘scrutiny’

Mauricio Pellegrino’s position as the manager of Southampton is currently under ‘scrutiny’, as reported by Jeremy Wilson for the [Telegraph](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2018/01/17/southampton-look-conclude-quick-deal-monacos-argentinian-striker/).

It’s stated that the Saints board are growing increasingly concerned by the team’s results of late, which have seen them fall to 17th in the Premier League, narrowly above the relegation zone.

Pellegrino has seen his side win just four games in the Premier League this season. Saints have struggled in front of goal, much as they did last term, but have also encountered several defensive problems this season.

With under half of the season remaining, Saints are in a hugely dangerous position and it seems those at St Mary’s are carefully examining and pondering Pellegrino’s role as the club’s first-team manager.

The board, as the report suggests, felt a degree of sympathy for Pellegrino due to the saga surrounding Virgil van Dijk in the first half of the season, with them believing that it left a cloud over the team and staff.

However, Van Dijk secured his £75m move to Liverpool before the transfer window started and the results have still left much to be desired.

Pellegrino has come under fire from Southampton fans for large sections of the season and if the Telegraph are to be believed, the board at St Mary’s are worried about the way the season is going.
