Southampton are set to renew their long-term interest in Basel winger Mohamed Elyounoussi, after the Saints sent a scout to watch the winger on the weekend, according to Swiss news outlet Blick, cited by Club Call.
Elyounoussi, 23, was on the scoresheet as his side defeated Lausanne 4-1 and the Norwegian found the back of the net again during this week’s Champions League fixture against Benfica.
The winger was watched closely by a Saints scout who filled his notepad whenever Elyounoussi was on the ball, according to the Swiss newspaper.
However, if the Saints are to act on their interest they may have to act fast as fellow Premier League side Leicester City are also believed to be monitoring the player’s situation.
Elyounoussi is under contract until 2021 with the Swiss giants, so the Saints may have to dig deep in their pockets if they are to land the impressive winger at St Mary’s in January.
