Southampton were heavily linked with a move for Luciano Vietto in the summer.
The Atletico Madrid striker is currently out of favour under Diego Simeone and as cited by Spanish news outlet Marca (via talkSPORT), the La Liga outfit are willing to offload the forward in January.
Vietto has proven to be something of an underwhelming signing for Atletico since his big move from Villarreal. He spent last season on loan at Sevilla but failed to really find consistent game time.
Now, with Diego Costa’s arrival at Atletico set to go through at the start of the new year when the club’s transfer embargo is lifted, Vietto is to be pushed even further down in the pecking order.
Southampton have struggled for goals this season, and it looks as though they may have the chance to move in for Vietto again. Saints have netted just five goals in their opening seven Premier League games as they sit in 12th place.
