Kevin Wimmer admits he wants to leave Spurs this summer
Tottenham Hotspur defender Kevin Wimmer, a reported target for Southampton, has admitted that he is focused on leaving the club ahead of the new season.
The Austrian international has struggled for first team football at the London club, with Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen settled as the first choice central defensive partnership.
Spurs have labelled Wimmer with a £20million price tag but the defender is likely to attract the attention of a number of Premier League clubs.
In an interview with Sky Sports Austria, Wimmer said:
24 years of age is where it is most important to play regularly and not only have to train week after week and sit of the bench. In the next few days and weeks, the main focus will certainly be placed on what is there for offers.
Wimmer made just 10 appearances for Tottenham last season and intent on leaving the club this summer to get regular first team football and he is keen to stay in the Premier League although he is open to a move back to Cologne too.
For me, it would be the most beautiful if I could stay in the Premier League In Cologne, I have experienced three super years. I believe that Cologne is always a very nice step for me, you have to look at what happens, but I would prefer it if I could remain in the Premier League.
Whether Southampton are prepared to meet Spurs’ £2omillion asking price remains to be seen.
