Sheffield United keen on McCarthy
Southampton youngster Jason McCarthy has been in impressive form for Walsall this season, and this has led to Sheffield United showing interest.
According to a report from the Walsall Advertiser today, the young defender has caught the eye of the Blades’ manager Chris Wilder and that has led to him pondering a move for McCarthy.
The former Southampton Under-21 captain is capable of playing in central defence or at right-back and has established himself as a key player for League One outfit Walsall this season.
However, he is out of contract at St Mary’s this summer and could be set to leave the club if Claude Puel feels as though renewing his deal isn’t worthwhile.
Sheffield United have just secured promotion to the Championship ahead of next season and it would be a perfect step for McCarthy’s progression, given this season’s League One exploits and last season’s success with Wycombe Wanderers in League Two.
He was once touted for big things at Southampton and his future remains uncertain.
