# Garcia no longer in the running for Saints job

After he was reportedly one of the names under consideration from Southampton’s board regarding their chase for a new manager, Rudi Garcia has been ruled out of the running for the vacant post.

Garcia was very much a left-field, out of the blue candidate for the job but after the Frenchman was sacked by Roma earlier this year, a move to Southampton wouldn’t have been beyond the realms of possibility by any stretch of the imagination.

The report from [The Telegraph](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2016/06/17/manuel-pellegrini-on-southampton-manager-shortlist/?) states that Garcia underwent talks with the club over the last couple of days but it appears as though the negotiations between the 52-year-old and the Southampton board were not exactly successful and the club didn’t see fit to appoint Garcia.

However, the failure to reach an agreement with the former Lille and Roma boss is certainly not the end of the world for Saints as they continue on their hunt for a new manager with a fresh shortlist of names that could be poised to be considered as the board assess their options.

The shortlist includes names as big as Manuel Pellegrini, if the club are to opt to move in on an experienced option at the helm of the club.

Regardless of what happened within negotiations with Garcia, the board will take their time to choose the right man for the job instead of rushing into things.
