# Southampton lining up move for Lorient midfielder

Southampton are preparing a surprise summer move for Lorient defensive midfielder Didier N’Dong, according to [L’Equipe](https://www.lequipe.fr/Football/Actualites/Didier-ndong-plait-a-stoke-city-et-southampton/626701).

The speculation for Saints’ interest in N’Dong comes after controversial midfielder Victor Wanyama is looking likely to leave the club in the upcoming summer window, as Southampton assess their potential replacements, bracing themselves for another tough summer. However, it has been recently [reported](https://readsouthampton.com/2016/01/18/saints-hopeful-agreeing-new-wanyama-deal/) that the Saints are looking to extend Wanyama’s stay at the club by offering him a new contract.

Although the club remain hopeful of the Kenyan midfielder remaining at the club for a further period of time, L’Equipe report that Southampton are joined by fellow Premier League outfit Stoke in their pursuit of 21-year-old midfielder, Didier N’Dong.

N’Dong joined Lorient just last year, but is enjoying a highly impressive season in Ligue 1 so far, making 31 appearances for his side and scoring a respectable two goals from deep in midfield.

However, if Southampton are to pursue the promising Gabonese international, they will need to wait until the summer transfer window as N’Dong’s parent club Lorient are looking to keep hold of one of their prized asset for the remainder of the season.

L’Equipe report that it would take a minimum of £10 million to persuade Lorient to sell N’Dong, but with the 21-year-old continuing to show mature and exciting displays at the heart of the midfield for his side, the current price tag could prove to be a bargain.

Would you like to see N’Dong at Southampton?
