# Forster delighted with comeback

Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster has told [Southampton’s website](https://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/article/20160113-fraser-forster-post-southampton-watford-2900519.aspx) how delighted he was to come back from injury and able to mark it with a win and a clean sheet.

The English international had been missing with injury for the last nine months following an injury in the match against Burnley, March of last year. Since then, the only match he had played in was a 1-0 win for the under-21’s against Chelsea last week.

Due to an injury to Maarten Stekelenburg, Forster was selected a week earlier than Ronald Koeman may have liked but it seemed to pay dividends. Forster didn’t have an awful lot to do as Southampton won 2-0 but he commanded his defence well and looked assured behind his defence.

Goals from Shane Long and Dusan Tadic either side of half-time gave Southampton the win that allowed them to move back up to 12th in the Premier League.

Speaking after the match, Forster said this:

> It was brilliant – I wasn’t overworked by any stretch of the imagination. It was a fantastic team performance.

> It’s a performance all the lads can be pleased with. The manager came up with a good game-plan and we stuck to it.

> Credit where it’s due, we did well and hopefully we can build on it.

> It was nice to get another 90 minutes under my belt. It means a bit more confidence will come back. I’ll just work as hard as I can in training and see where it takes us.

> It will give us a lot of confidence – everyone did amazingly well. It will be fantastic to take that forward and build on it.

Forster felt comfortable with the defence and like he’d never been away.

> It felt like any other game and I felt like I hadn’t been away.

> I’ve played so many times with \[Ryan\] Bertrand and José \[Fonte\], and I played with Virgil \[van Dijk\] at Celtic.

> We have a great relationship and understanding and they performed really well.

> They really limited them to few opportunities. It was a fantastic team performance and so easy to slot back in.
