# Last time out: Watford (H)

As Southampton gear up to face in-form Watford on Wednesday night in a must-win Premier League game, we take a look back on what happened the last time the two went head to head at St Mary’s.

It was at the start of October and near the beginning of what proved to be a wonderful season for Saints as they secured their return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Saints took the lead through a powerful Rickie Lambert penalty mid-way through the first half to calm the nerves of the Southampton faithful. Shortly after the interval, the same man doubled Saints’ lead with yet another penalty as Lambert extended his perfect penalty record for Southampton.

With 20 minutes to spare, Watford were put to bed by forward Guly do Prado as he caressed in Southampton’s third of the afternoon to give Southampton sufficient breathing space.

It was then in the 88th minute that substitute Lee Holmes scored the fourth of the game for Southampton with an excellent long range strike to heap misery on the Hornets.

Fast forward over five years and now Watford find themselves above Southampton and eyeing a big away win at St Mary’s on Wednesday, whilst the Saints hope to put an end to their treacherous run of form, having won just once in their last 11 competitive fixtures.
