# Southampton eye up Atletico starlet

According to [The Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/southampton-tracking-atletico-madrids-thomas-7122270), Southampton are lining up a surprise move for highly rated Atletico Madrid midfielder, Thomas Partey.

The 22-year-old has been a stand-out performer for the Spanish giants this season and has attracted interest from a number of top flight clubs. Tottenham and Arsenal are reportedly big admirers of the youngster, whilst Watford have already had a £5.6 million bid rejected by Atletico.

It is widely expected that if Partey is signed by Southampton, it will be in preparation for controversial star Victor Wanyama’s inevitable departure in the summer, with the Kenyan’s performances massively dipping.

The Ghanian midfielder would be a good fit for Southampton’s ethos, with a lot of potential on show and already a calm head on his shoulders; a move for Partey could be one that would be beneficial for boss Ronald Koeman and his side.
